A series of permanent public site-specific artworks, inspired by the Tall Trees and Blackwater Arboretum on Rhinefield Ornamental Drive in the New Forest. Audio artworks by leading artists are available for visitors to download to experienced via headphones for a self-led alternative experience of this epic and unique New Forest woodland - or simply any forest anywhere.
The commission concept is built upon ideas of the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku, or Forest Bathing, which is good for both physical and mental wellbeing. This intervention approach to public art has been developed in light of the special nature of the area and the restrictions on physical artworks and events happening here.
Rhinefield Ornamental Drive (see map) is a really special place, partly because (bizarrely) the New Forest doesn't actually have that many tress but also because of the epic architecture of the trees. Beware wifi within the forest is limited, downloading recommended.
