People + Place ( PaP) is a forum for artists exploring ideas and modes of contemporary art-making that exist at the intersection of people and place, operating in the Southampton / New Forest area. It is a framework to test and share ideas that inform participating artists’ practices. #peopleandplacemail

During the Covid 19 crisis alongside online meet-ups PaP have established People + Place (mail) as an alternative mode of discussion and communication. Sharing distinct individual experiences, whilst exploring and perpetuating IRL aspects of this period of isolation and distancing. Being an artist is how one lives, making is a way of thinking and processing the current crisis. 

  • #1 People + Place (Mail) has been produced by Annabel Pettigrew under the influence of the reigning key moon phase, the pink supermoon. Words have been informed by research into the moon based writings of sybil leek, the most notorious witch of the new forest. Free download here

  • #3 People + Place (Mail) was produced by Harry Meadows questions were emailed enquirying about thoughts on weather during the Covid lockdown. PaP artists were asked to record a response. This clip ( look left) features Annabel and Gemma’s responses.

On 6 May 2020 PaP held an in-conversation with Michael Crane, author of Correspondence Art: Source Book for the Network of International Postal Art Activity (1984).

PLEASE NOTE: In recognition of the amazing work that the postal service are doing during this time of crisis we checked in with our postie and local post office to ensure that we were not adding to the burden, and when we are using royal mail as opposed to email we will be producing letters only.

PaP is an artists’ peer network led by artist Laura Eldret, in partnership with MTP (More Than Ponies), and supported by ‘a space’ arts.
